Kyaw Moe Khine, aka Bart Was Not Here
Born in 1996 in Yangon, Kyaw Moe Khine represents the new generation of Myanmar artists. He graduated with a Diploma in Fine Arts from LASALLE College of the Arts in 2018.
Tempted by the tags and the bubble letters painted on the streets of Yangon, Kyaw Moe Khine began “experimenting” with spray cans in the 8th grade. He gave himself the alias “Bart Was Not Here” after the character in “The Simpsons”, alluding to the tongue-in-cheek quality in his artworks. Inspired by Pop Art and Lowbrow Art along with aspects of popular culture, Bart’s expressions in his art on or off the walls are a mix of text and image juxtaposing Burmese and imported cultural norms.
He has participated and organised a number of Street Art and Lowbrow Art exhibitions in Yangon. He was exhibited at Saatchi’s art fair in London in October 2018 and in two group shows at Intersections gallery in 2018 and 2019.
His first solo show took place in Yangon, Myanmar in May 2019.
