The Indian New Year is observed by various Indian sub-ethnic communities in Singapore. Tamil families celebrate Puthandu on the first day of the Tamil calendar month of Chithirai, which fell on 14 April this year; the Sikh community observes Vaisakhi, which was on 13 April for 2021; while the Malayalee, Telugu and Bengali communities observe Vishu, Ugadi and Pohela Baishakh respectively around this time of the year too.
This event had hands-on craft activities and cooking demonstrations that showcase elements of intangible cultural heritage that are practised during these festivals!
